Messiah serves a thriving neighborhood right outside its doors
Since our founding in 1923, we have sought to serve our neighborhood through its various transitions. What was once pasture land and single family homes is now multi-story townhouses and thriving restaurants and businesses. We are in the thick of it and love being a part of the excitement of the Rice Military Neighborhood in the Washington-Heights Corridor west of downtown Houston.
We are committed to following Jesus’ teaching that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. This means that we are concerned about people’s physical and emotional needs as well as their spiritual needs.

Messiah Lutheran Church will by the grace of God –
- Equip households and families to be outposts of outreach and compassion through our Early Childhood Center and Christian Education ministries for children and adults.
- Embrace those who are in need and those who are apart from Christ through focused and intentional outreach and compassion ministries, including our Comfort Dog Ministry.
- Enrich lives with the transformative power of God’s Word and Sacraments through relational outreach and meaningful worship.
- Embolden its members to follow Jesus through their involvement in works of outreach and compassion.
